Pooja Room Essentials: Sambrani and Loban

By the Shreedhara team · 3 min read · Updated 13 Oct 2026

Sambrani (benzoin resin) and loban are traditional aromatic resins burned during pooja for their fragrant smoke. Here is how to use them safely at home.

How to burn

  1. Light a charcoal disc until it glows and is covered in grey ash.
  2. Place it in a heat-safe holder on a stable surface.
  3. Sprinkle a small pinch of resin or place a sambrani cup on top.
  4. Keep the room ventilated and never leave it unattended.

Choosing a holder

Ceramic holders are easy to clean, wooden burners suit traditional setups. Compare in our ceramic vs wooden guide.
